Rabbi Rachel Heaps has served as Temple Jeremiah's rabbi for the last three years, modernizing how the synagogue operates to emphasize inclusivity and creating programs for everyone from youth to seniors. In addition to her work, Rachel tries to bond with as many Jews as possible and help them find their niche in community life. She meets new people through her work as a faculty member at URJ OSRUI and URJ SciTech East, and the working group of north suburban assistant/associate clergy that she started.

Described as someone with compassion in her DNA, she pivoted her synagogue's plans during the COVID-19 pandemic to include online services, classes, videos, and programs. Her involvement with Keshet, JCFS, and the Women's Rabbi Network give her innovative ideas to help the community stay united.

SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME:
I've never met a Sudoku puzzle that I couldn't handle; but finishing a crossword is beyond me.

YOUR BEST PIECE OF ADVICE:
My advice is also my life motto: Fake it 'til you make it. Or said another way: act as if you have faith and faith will be given to you.

IF TIME AND MONEY WERE LIMITLESS, I WOULD:
Get a super-powered computer, learn how to fingerpick on the guitar, take a tour of world cuisines, go back to school, and learn for learning’s sake.
