As the Assistant Director of Recreation and Summer Programming for Keshet, Marni Sommerfield ensures that the classic Jewish childhood experiences -- camp, sports, youth group, Sunday school -- are all available and accessible for children with disabilities.
In the short time Marni has worked at Keshet, the number of participants in camp and recreation programs has more than doubled, particularly with the Greater Midwest Region of BBYO, with which Marni has been instrumental in implementing a culture of inclusion -- training staff, arranging accommodations for teens with disabilities to join BBYO, and more.
Marni's work not only positively impacts children with disabilities and their families, but she is also a mentor for the teens who work as counselors at her camps and an inspiration and example of acceptance to the community at large.

HOW DO YOU GIVE BACK:
I’d like to think that I train current teens and young adults to be more accepting and inclusive of others no matter their ability. I help build confidence and independence for both the campers, students, participants and staff at Keshet, giving them the tools to foster inclusion throughout Chicago.
